A journey back to 1900 in the heart of Périgord Noir
Just two hours from Bordeaux, in Bugue, Dordogne, there’s a magical place that feels like stepping back in time. The Parc du Bournat - which means "the hive" in Occitan - spreads its 8 hectares of ancient stone, century-old carousels, and revived traditions in a charming setting, in the heart of the Vézère Valley. It's a living museum, a re-created village, an immersive experience into the sweet way of life of the Belle Époque.

Rides, animals, workshops, and encounters
Opened in 1992, after two years of monumental work, this theme park, unique in France, captures the everyday life of a village from the late 19th century: artisans at work, old buildings, forgotten trades, rides from another century — accessible from the age of 2 — and free-roaming animals (geese, turkeys, chickens, draft horses, sheep, birds) bring to life an era that is both simple and rich.
.
Dreamed up by Paul-Jean Souriau, an industrialist who fell in love with the Périgord, today it’s cherished by his grandchildren. Le Bournat remains a private cultural gem, passionately brought to life by around a hundred seasonal workers in the summer and a dedicated permanent team of about twenty people.
A leap back in time for less than 20€
You can wander around, learn something new, and enjoy a 100% local selection — artisanal beers, fresh products, and spit-roasted hams in the summer — all while having fun in a slow-tourism spirit, away from the crowds.
Open from early April to the end of September, with prices starting at 12€ for children and 19.90€ for adults, the Parc du Bournat is more than just a tourist site: it’s a living memory, a tribute to the art of living in days gone by, aiming to keep its prices accessible despite the costs of maintenance, unlike those other big tourist attractions.
Many interpretations for all generations
« There are different ways to experience the park, learn and educate oneself, have fun with the rides, meet artisans to share their passion, or reconnect with the past for history enthusiasts » shares Jade, the communications manager.
A rich and unparalleled experience that promises an exciting journey through time. With summer here, the nocturnes of Bournat transform the park into a true open-air community ball, featuring a countryside buffet, festive concerts, and a grand fireworks display, extending the magic until 11 PM. Sincere and authentic in its village-like approach, Parc du Bournat ranks among the top 5 most visited tourist sites in Dordogne.
