Saved from the waters, an incredible story
Born in the 13th century, Val has journeyed through the ages, changing hands, and nearly drowning in the 20th century. When EDF decided to build a dam, the castle was destined for submersion. But here's a twist: the height of the dam was lowered, saving the fortress from certain doom. The result? Val now sits on a peninsula, with its feet in the water, ready for a new life right in the heart of Auvergne!

A Living and Vibrant Heritage
Today, Val is not just a postcard-perfect backdrop: it’s a lively place open for visits, hosting contemporary art exhibitions every summer. Over the years, it has built a unique collection featuring works by Bernard Buffet, Franz Priking, and Eugène Baboulène, among others. Your visit takes you from the honor court to the Gothic chapel, passing through beautifully furnished rooms, temporary exhibitions, and a walkway that offers a panoramic view of the lake and valley. The castle also organizes festive activities in the summer, including concerts with drinks and guided tours for both young and old.
