The Editor

The Arjuzanx Nature Reserve is located in the heart of a former mining site. Covering nearly 3 hectares, it encompasses the territory of 4 Landes communes (Arjuzanx, Morcenx, Rion des Landes, and Villenave). This exceptional reserve was classified as the "National Reserve for Hunting and Wildlife" in 1987. The site has become the largest French wintering site for Common Cranes, with nearly 2000 finding refuge here each winter, making it a paradise for birdwatchers and one of the reference protected natural areas in France and Europe.

A haven of protected biodiversity

But that's not all. Several species inhabit this exceptional reserve. You can discover a diverse and varied birdlife (such as the Gadwall, Sardinian Warbler, Western Marsh Harrier, Common Crane...), as well as resident species (Roe Deer, Hare...), rare plant species (such as Bog Clubmoss, Small-flowered Serapias...) and remarkable animal species (Otter, Dusky Large Blue). Located in the heart of the Landes de Gascogne forest massif, the Arjuzanx site is home to all representatives of the fauna of the Landes plateau.

On foot, on horseback, or by bike, the site is yours to explore.

Additionally, the site offers numerous activities in an exceptional setting: walks, hiking (mountain biking, walking, horseback riding), swimming in the lake, fishing, water activities (canoeing, sailing, rowboat, paddle boarding), or even yoga classes for a wellness break with a view.
