The Shepherd's Wheel

The latest addition to the Bordeaux sheepfold, this wheel opened last summer. Perched at the top of Saint Rémi Street, this little chalet is an ode to Savoie and its specialties. Raclettes, croutes savoyardes, and fondues adorn the large wooden tables in a warm and authentic atmosphere. And to hydrate and wash it all down, the owners serve typical wines from the region. In this gray period when our stomachs cry out for cheese, we would make it our headquarters.

La Table Deruelle

After the success of their cheese shop, the Deruelle family is adding a new dimension to their offerings: cheese-based cuisine. And it's in the heart of the Saint-Michel district that La Table Deruelle has set up shop with their pots and raclette machines! From the classic cheese platter to saucisse de Morteau and Auvergne fondue, their menu is a call to indulge. To top it off, they organize weekly themed nights featuring quality products such as tartiflette night, raclette night, fondue night, and camembert and truffle Mont d'or night. And all of this., you can imagine, it makes our mouths water...

Le Comptoir Fromager

In the lively Saint-Pierre neighborhood hides a true gem of light and colors. Opened three years ago, this small restaurant with a cosy, elegant, and slightly whimsical decor holds many surprises! No raclette here but reblochonnade starting at €18, truffled mont d'or or ravioles de trappe d'Echourgnac with speck emulsion and confit egg. We hear that the roasted camembert is to die for! Cheese, that's life...

Baud & Millet

This establishment is simply a paradise for cheese lovers. Open for nearly 25 years, the authentic and kitschy place houses over 110 cheeses in its cellar and a wide range of Bordeaux wines. If the upstairs area charms with its mix of French cheese maps, proudly displayed wines and rustic bell, the vaulted cellar provides an intimate setting for group tastings. From roasted camembert with duck breast at 22€ to the traditional sharing Savoyard fondue for 4.4 euros passing by Mont d'Or on its own, the common thread is cheese.

La Petite Savoie

Located just a short walk away from the Place du Palais for almost 30 years, this place serves traditional raclettes and fondues for €20-30, as well as lesser-known dishes like berthoud, reblochonnades, brasérades, amazing wines from Savoie, and even a genepi to share…

Some ephemeral spots

It is also worth noting that some spots only open during the ski season. This year, this is the case with Refuge: the Savoyard restaurant at Domaine de Raba which is dressed in snow and opens its mountain chalet for the 2nd consecutive year with a winter menu featuring traditional fondue (classic or with porcini mushrooms or truffles), natural or smoked raclette for a minimum of 2 diners.

Another address that hasn't gone unnoticed? The Station 1850 opened by Intercontinental since early December. Ultra-cozy heated cable cars and bubbles have set up in a pine forest to recreate a Pyrenean atmosphere. The menu lovingly prepared by Chef François Durand ranges from the famous Truffled Mont d'Or cheese served with cold cuts and grenaille potatoes, the classic tartiflette or even the mountaineer's plate with a selection of aged cheeses and dried meats.

Happy, cheerful, and light-hearted.

Le Refuge Bordeaux

Last but not least? The unlimited fondue evenings! "Unlimited Savoyard fondue" that the 17-45 restaurant relaunches every month from November to March. The specialist in customizable cheese and charcuterie boards offers for the price of 20 euros per person a mountain of cheeses (reblochon fermier, abondance, comté, and beaufort) served with white wine and garlic in old-fashioned little fondue pots. The demand is so high that they might even repeat the operation on Tuesdays. Say cheese!
