The Editor

We know that Bernard Magrez is a lover of contemporary art. His collection extends to more than 500 works by national and international artists, from established experts to emerging talents. The idea for this new exhibition at Château Labottière, on display until October 2nd, was to create a journey through the most impactful pieces. A voyage that is both sensitive and eclectic, evoking various impressions and sensations. Almost sensory, in the end. In total, the 10 rooms of the castle are occupied by different themes.

80 works, 10 rooms, 10 atmospheres

It's a sublime procession of 80 sculptures, photographs, paintings... in 10 different worlds, inviting the public to immerse themselves in an atmosphere marked by transversality. True to its positioning, the Bernard Magrez Institute makes a beautiful choice in terms of the variety of artists exhibited. In the entrance hall of the Château, the exhibition begins with 2 monumental works by JR, two stirring portrait collages, aka the most influential artist of the moment followed by over a million people on social media. A beautiful start to the morning.

Next up is the library, where a certain warm atmosphere prevails. An ideal setting to display, almost nostalgically, the very first artwork acquired by Bernard Magrez, signed by Buffet. A lovely still life from Château Pape-Clément. The third room, on the other hand, is almost plunged into darkness with a choice of icy artworks illuminated with a knife for a cold, nocturnal environment. What about the other 6 rooms of the castle? One is dedicated to the greatest female muses, another to the history of urban art, not forgetting the one dedicated to spirituality, travel, music, or more pointedly to black and white activist photo reports.

Diversity, emotions, truth, thrills

During this synesthetic journey, the viewer encounters the works of Philippe Cogné, Jean-Michel Othoniel, JR, Salgado, Futura 2000, Yan Pei-Ming, Martial Raysse, Steve McCurry, and Obey. The exhibition brings together a vibrant mix of artistic expressions that will surely delight and inspire.

Don't you love when different techniques, styles, and trends come together to create something unique, a truly special moment? The attention to detail is impeccably maintained. For example, Aurélien Desailloud shared that it took an hour to set up just one projector in the dimly lit room where the photographs are displayed, even though 80 were needed for the installation. Putting your heart into your work truly makes all the difference.

A national contest of artistic creation

In the Pavilion de la Boétie, which adjoins the Château, there is a continuous exhibition around Bernard Magrez's favorite mantra "Never give up". As a patron who supports creation, the wine estate owner has commissioned artists to create works (videos, photos, sculptures, paintings, and installations) confirmed or emerging. The theme of "Never Give Up". Street artists Rouge, Charles Fous, sard or JonOne rub shoulders with artists like Renaud Chambon, photographers like David Siodos, or painters like Guillaume Toumanian. And what if you were part of it too? An artistic creation contest, open to all (graphic designers, illustrators, photographers, painters), invites you to create a square piece of artwork measuring 1m x 1m that will find its place among the others.famous artists. The goal: illustrate what your way of never giving up is. All info here.
