On Sunday, March 10th, at the Toulouse Exhibition Center (MEETT), the cream of the crop of bakers went head-to-head to earn the prestigious title of the best chocolate croissant in the world. 20 competitors from 12 different countries (France, Canada, Tunisia, Vietnam, Lebanon, and more) showcased their incredible skills, and the level of talent was simply exceptional.
Strict Rules to Follow
To win the contest, participants had to create 24 chocolate croissants, including 12 classic ones and 12 reinvented versions. The rules were strict: each croissant had to weigh between 70 and 90 grams, and of course, be made with butter and chocolate. The jury, made up of 18 experts, evaluated each creation based on baking, texture, consistency, flakiness, and, naturally, taste.
And it’s Dimitri Bordon, a 29-year-old from Gers, who has captured the most discerning palates. Based in Cugnaux, just 25 minutes from Toulouse, Dimitri has stood out with his perfect classic chocolate croissant. But it was his boldness during the creative challenge that made all the difference. Imagine a chocolate croissant flavored with Sichuan pepper, shaped like a mill, filled with mandarin jelly, bitter orange, and yuzu juice… A delight that literally won over the judges.
