After 7 years of operation, the adventure of Gabriel is coming to an end. Located in the heart of Bordeaux, right on the prestigious Place de la Bourse, the establishment will soon close its doors. This decision was announced by its owners, who cited both the economic difficulties of the sector, the slowdown in tourism, and the recent departure of its two-Michelin-star chef, Bertrand Noeureuil.

After 2 Michelin stars, Gabriel fades away

Taken over in 2019 by the de Boüard family, who also lead Château Angélus in Saint-Émilion, Le Gabriel underwent significant renovations and substantial investments. The restaurant was part of a long-term strategy, particularly driven by its gastronomic restaurant L'Observatoire. This journey reached its peak in 2025 with the achievement of a 2nd Michelin star, establishing it as one of the most ambitious dining spots in Bordeaux.

But the premature departure of Bertrand Noeureuil has shaken this balance. According to the owners, it proved impossible to quickly find a chef capable of raising the establishment to the highest level.

An economic context that has become too fragile

Beyond this major culinary change, management emphasizes that Gabriel had not yet reached its economic balance. The slowdown in tourist activity and the difficulties currently affecting the Bordeaux vineyards have also weighed heavily. These factors ultimately led to the closure of this iconic address in the Gironde capital.

Back to the Roots in Saint-Émilion

For the de Boüard family, this closure also marks a strategic repositioning. « This choice allows us to refocus our attention, our ambition, and our efforts on our birthplace, where it all began, where our roots are: in Saint-Émilion», explains Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal.

The group now intends to concentrate its investments on its wine activities and on the Logis de la Cadène, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Saint-Émilion led by chef Thibaut Gamba.
