The former convent of La Merci has undergone a transformation. Steeped in history, the historic building served as a refuge for enslaved prisoners taken in by the monks and welcomed Louis XIV's sister to say her final prayer before getting married by proxy at Pey-Berland Cathedral. Now, the majestic vaulted chamber is opening up to a much brighter future by embracing the world of live music.
Live concerts in an ultra-sophisticated setting
A unique venue, led by Davide De Maria (the manager of Bordeaux's first Neapolitan restaurant, Osteria da Luigi). Code 23 emerged on December 1st with a perfect combination of modernity, music played by renowned musicians, and baroque decorations. Ultra-chic and selective, it becomes the first real jazz and blues bar in Bordeaux with artistic direction by Thomas Bercy. Showcasing an exclusive music lineup with special guests, it will offer concerts every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday starting April 1st. On Wednesdays and Sundays, the historic walls will come alive with piano-bar sessions.

Just like in New York, where cozy music restaurants are plentiful, Code 23 also focuses on a quality food menu. On the menu? Simple sharing plates, such as hummus, eggplant caviar, Périgord duck foie gras, salmon gravlax, authentic and soft Italian charcuterie, and a selection of cheeses from Sardinia. For those with bigger appetites, individual dishes like roast beef with homemade tuna sauce or ricotta and spinach stuffed pasta are also available.
