Le Poisson Rouge is about to make way for Le Rouge Gorge. Installed at 22 rue Saumenude since 2014, this beloved neighborhood bar in the Saint-Michel district is changing hands and getting a fresh new look with a new concept blending seasonal cuisine, wines, and DJ sets running until 2 a.m.

In Bordeaux, 3 partners are taking over the historic Poisson Rouge location to create Le Rouge Gorge, a venue open Tuesday to Sunday that aims to preserve its predecessor's underground DNA while developing a genuine culinary offer. The opening is scheduled for October. 

Poisson Rouge becomes Le Rouge Gorge

For over a decade, Poisson Rouge brought life to 22 rue Saumenude, just a stone's throw from Place Saint-Michel. Since 2015, our editorial team has been highlighting its regular DJ nights, its free-spirited atmosphere and its identity as a neighborhood bar.


Le Rouge Gorge is stepping up today to carry on the legacy without erasing its heritage. Behind the project, childhood friends want to preserve a deliberately underground, free and festive spirit, while giving much greater importance to the cuisine.

A short menu featuring fresh produce and shareable plates

At the helm, Noé, who trained in the kitchens of a two-Michelin-starred restaurant, will create a deliberately focused menu centered around fresh, seasonal ingredients.


The idea? Shareable plates in a relaxed "before the counter" vibe, with 2 vegetarian options, 2 centered around meat, and 2 around fish. Simple cuisine to read, but thoughtfully crafted on the plate, best enjoyed with a few great wines.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays will offer more space for the bar and restaurant atmosphere.

DJ sets until 2 in the morning

Starting Thursday, Le Rouge Gorge will gradually shift gears. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, DJ sets will take over from 10 pm to 2 am, with programming focused mainly on electronic music. A choice that continues the venue's spirit, where Bordeaux locals always felt right at home.


Sunday, an "after Capu" to wrap up the week

Le Rouge Gorge is also planning to open during a more unusual time slot: Sundays. The venue will offer an "after Capu" format, designed as a natural extension of the neighboring Capucins market.

The kitchen will be open from 12pm to 3pm with a menu tailored to the day, before making way for a DJ set from 5pm to 8pm. From the dining table to the dancefloor, Le Rouge Gorge wants to keep its doors buzzing all week long, with several recurring themes: cuisine, service, and musical programming.
