Just an hour from Bordeaux, there's a hidden gem where you can enjoy lunch surrounded by wild herbs, birds, and vineyards, away from the noise and roads. Accessible only by boat from Pauillac or Blaye, Patiras Island is as enchanting for its scenery as it is for the delightful dining experience offered at the Refuge de Patiras, its restaurant nestled at the foot of the lighthouse.

Panoramic Crossing of the Estuary Before Reaching the Island
The adventure begins as soon as you board! From Pauillac, a panoramic boat crosses the estuary of the Gironde to this 4.5-kilometer stretch of land, once used as a quarantine zone for sailors returning from the colonies. Along the way, the beautiful landscapes of the Médoc unfold before you, leading to the island, surrounded by marshes, vineyards, and wind-swept fields.
Every year, over 15,000 visitors come to discover this unique site managed by the Coastal Conservatory.

A restaurant in the heart of nature
In the heart of the island, the Refuge de Patiras has become the main attraction. Recently taken over by Sophie and Christophe Gouache, owners of Château Loudenne, this spot offers a delightful gastronomic getaway with a view of the estuary. The “Comptoir Gourmand” package, available for €78, includes a boat crossing, an aperitif, a bistro-style lunch, wine tastings, and a guided tour of the lighthouse.

The cuisine highlights local and seasonal products, with an eco-friendly approach: organic or natural products, purchases from local producers, and 100% sorted waste. After the meal, visitors can enjoy lounging in the sun, take a stroll around the lighthouse, or simply soak in the peaceful surroundings.
A lighthouse with a spectacular view of the Médoc
It's impossible to visit Patiras without climbing the 122 steps of its lighthouse built under Napoleon III. Standing at 30 meters tall, it offers a 360° view of the Gironde estuary, Pauillac, the Médoc vineyards, and the Vauban fortifications. One of the most beautiful panoramas in the area.

Starting in June, the island will also offer a more accessible package that includes a cruise, a visit, and a wine tasting for just €29. In July and August, evening aperitif events will let you explore the area at sunset while enjoying several wines from the estate.
From Bordeaux, you can easily get to Pauillac by train, then take a lovely 15-minute walk to the boat. Crossings are available from Friday to Sunday, from May to October.
