Talence goes back and turns the lights back on
Since 2018, Talence has plunged into darkness every night between 1 AM and 5 AM, a choice driven by environmental and economic needs. But times are changing, and so are lifestyles! In response to the needs expressed by night owls—pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and users of the TBM network—the city voted on June 30 for a gradual return to light.
Basically, before 1 AM: the lighting stays on with reduced intensity, just enough to ensure safe movement. From 1 AM to 5 AM: a soft, continuous light at 1 lux — the equivalent of a full moon night — lights up the whole town. After 5 AM: the brightness gradually increases until sunrise.
An adjusted, discreet lighting that won't weigh down the energy bill, thanks to a 100% LED network that has been remotely controlled since 2020.
Light Without Disturbance
However, we are not compromising on the protection of biodiversity. Two dark corridors — Haut-Brion and de la Marne avenues — will remain completely dark, ensuring…just like the parks and gardens at closing times. During major public holidays (July 14th, New Year's Eve…), the lighting will be exceptionally kept on all night.

An evaluated experiment in a year
This evolution is part of a process of listening and co-construction. Feedback is expected in the summer of 2026, to make adjustments if necessary for this new balance.
e urban comfort and luminous sobriety. As three lines of Express Buses will serve Talence by 2027, public lighting is in tune with a city in motion. More than just a simple return to light, it’s a promise: that of a safe, shared, and living-respecting public space.
