The Editor

In 2024, the Girondine capital recorded 25,220 crimes and offenses, for a population of 265,328 residents. This means a rate of 95 offenses per 1,000 residents, placing Bordeaux at the top of the 366 French cities with more than 22,500 inhabitants evaluated this year. That's a one-place increase from 2024, where the city was already in second position.

This first place is explained by a consistent level of crime, particularly driven by non-violent thefts, degradations, and physical violence, even as other major cities see their numbers decline. For comparison, Lille, the former number one, drops to third place with a rate of 88.5 per thousand, while Grenoble, on the rise, climbs to the second position (93.9 per thousand).

A refined ranking, but with nuances

Annemasse makes a thunderous entry into the top 10 (9th), while Échirolles sneaks into the top 20 for the first time.
