A castle closed to the public, heightened security, film trucks, and around fifty extras recruited… Since Monday, September 7, the Château de La Brède, the former home of Montesquieu, has been hosting a major Disney production. While the studio refuses to confirm the film's title, everything suggests it's the live-action adaptation of Rapunzel.
La Brède Castle Transformed Into a Movie Set
The estate, located about twenty kilometers from Bordeaux, has been completely taken over by filming crews. Until the end of the week, the site remains closed to the public, while significant security measures control access.
Around the castle, technical tents, heavy vehicles, and production equipment testify to the scale of the project. The La Brède town hall has also made the Parc de l'Espérance available, transformed into a base camp to welcome the film crews.
All signs point to Rapunzel
Disney has not officially confirmed either the title or the film's plot. Yet several elements converge toward the live action of Rapunzel, currently filming in Europe.
A few days before filming began in Gironde, production was looking for around 50 local extras to play villagers and guards in a foreign film set during the medieval period. The first scenes are believed to have already been shot last summer in Spain.
According to several specialized media outlets and fan communities that followwind the project, the adaptation directed by Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) should hit theaters in March 2028. To date, Disney has not yet confirmed that the Gironde filming is indeed related to this feature film.
