The Art of Japanese Knives in Bordeaux

In this charming 50 m² boutique tucked away between the Cours du Médoc and the Chartrons, the art of the blade blends beautifully with a culture of refinement. At Yūki Store, nothing is mass-produced: every blade is hand-forged in Japan by master blacksmiths, honoring centuries-old traditions. The very name of the store, Yūki, means “bravery” in Japanese, a playful nod to the spirit of the samurai.

A Tribute to the Ancestral Gesture

Each knife is a unique piece. From choosing the blade to designing the handle, including the color, materials (stabilized wood, resin), and finishes, the customer takes part in creating their tool. Not a single piece is reproduced, except for specific orders of identical sets. A portion of the stock is intentionally left bare to allow for personalization.

Unique pieces made to order

The starting prices begin at €160, with more complex models reaching up to €800, and even €3,000 for exceptional creations. However, Andréa, the founder, wants to keep the spirit of the place accessible: “I prefer to remain a business that caters to the general public.” Yūki Store also offers accessories, protective cases, and various items related to the art of dining.

A lively workshop with classes for enthusiasts

Behind the display, a 15 m² workshop hosts the finishing touches, the assembly of handles, and a hand sharpening service done on stone, without machines. For the curious or the passionate, sharpening classes are also offered, so you can learn to maintain your own blades. The founder regularly visits restaurants to sharpen the knives of professionals.

At the helm: Andréa, originally from Italy and a former chef for 15 years, trained in Italy, Spain, the Arcachon Basin, and at a gourmet establishment near Toulouse. He launched the Yūki online store in January 2020 before opening the physical store in January 2025, a dream come true of sharing and precision.

Yūki Store is thus establishing itself as a rare gem in Bordeaux: an elegant place of Asian tradition and creativity, where every knife becomes a unique masterpiece.
