Starting this Wednesday, June 17, temperatures are set to soar in Gironde. According to Météo-France forecasts, Bordeaux is expected to experience a long stretch of intense heat, with highs between 35°C and 39°C for more than 10 consecutive days.
Intense Heat Until the Summer Solstice
After a more comfortable day this Tuesday with expected temperatures of 29°C, things will heat up dramatically starting Wednesday with 35°C in Bordeaux. The peak is expected on Thursday, June 18, with temperatures reaching up to 39°C, followed by a series of days ranging from 35°C to 38°C until June 28.
Those temperature deviations from seasonal norms will regularly reach +10 to +12°C, which is remarkable for mid-June.
Tropical Nights in Bordeaux
Another notable aspect: nighttime temperatures. Several nights are expected to stay above 20°C.°C, with minimum temperatures ranging between 21°C and 29°C depending on the area. These “tropical nights” hinder the body’s ability to recover efficiently and are one of the main risk factors during heatwaves.

A first heatwave of the year?
Météo-France estimates that this episode could become the first real heatwave of 2026 on a national scale. In Gironde, the heatwave thresholds are set at 35°C during the day and 21°C at night for at least three consecutive days. All indicators point towards a lasting episode, potentially lasting until June 27 or 28, before thunderstorms and a significant cool-down are expected at the beginning of the following week.
Authorities remind everyone of the usual guidelines: drink regularly, avoid physical exertion during the hottest hours, keep your home cool, and check on the most vulnerable individuals.
