Two new trams to lighten the load in the Bordeaux metropolis
Among all the exciting announcements made during the last press conference by Keolis Bordeaux, the launch dates for lines E and F were the most eagerly awaited. These two lines complete a major project carried out this summer around the Bourgogne Gate, involving around fifty people and ten companies. The result: a better-connected network and new direct links without transfers starting Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Line E will connect Floirac Dravemont to Blanquefort, passing through Stalingrad and the Quinconces. Line F will provide an unprecedented connection between Bègles station, Saint-Jean station, Pellegrin hospital, and Mérignac airport — a journey of about 45 minutes. Passengers will enjoy a frequency of every 10 minutes during the day and a enhanced offer of 33% during peak hours, especially between Cenon, Pellegrin, and Porte de Bourgogne. In total, 160 additional daily trips are expected on these routes.
For travelers, the changes will also be noticeable at the station: new signage, updated neighborhood maps, and improved clarity for connections. More than 600 drivers have been trained on the new configuration and modernized track switches.

A bus offer that adapts
The evolution of the tram system comes with a partial redesign of the bus network. The big news? The new express bus line H, known as the “boulevard circular”, will connect both banks over 21 km, with 65% of the route dedicated to bus lanes and a frequency ranging from 5 to 12 minutes depending on the segments. It will serve rapidly growing neighborhoods and ensure optimized connections with the six tram lines.
Other adjustments will complement this new look of the network:
-
Merger of Lianes 1 and 6, providing a direct link between Saint-Jean train station, Mérignac and Caudéran ;
-
Return of Line 4, between Pessac Cap de Bos and Gambetta Mérignac ;
-
Reorganization of Lines 16 and 24 on the right bank, in connection with Floirac and Bouliac ;
-
Cancellation of Line 86, which has been integrated into the new express bus.
Innovations Across the Network
Beyond the tram, Bordeaux continues its modernization : new validators at the platforms make boarding easier - already 565,000 validations recorded since their installation, the evolution of the TBM app (intermodal routes, bike guidance, instant m-ticket, and integration of the service “Le Vélo”) or the renovation of the tram carriages as part of the modernization plan.
The modernization will be effective until 2030. On the bus side, the G line sees the arrival of its first 18-meter electric vehicles, equipped with Wi-Fi, USB ports, and dynamic screens.With these changes, Bordeaux Métropole is taking a significant step towards a more readable, connected, and sustainable network. As Christine Bost, president of the Metropolis, reminded us during the press conference: « This evolution is part of a logic of performance and territorial equality: bringing residents closer, connecting neighborhoods, and making travel smoother. »
