The least sunny winter in Bordeaux in 33 years
Rain is now part of the landscape in Bordeaux. For the past few weeks, days go by and look alike, but the sun doesn't come out (or very rarely).
According to data published by La Chaîne Météo: despite mild temperatures, sunshine is significantly below average in France. This winter season is experiencing a sunshine deficit of 10% - with a peak of -36% for the month of February - compared to an average of data compiled between 1991 and 2020.
Rainy winter, happy winter?
Specifically, the cities experiencing the least sunny winter are: Brest, Cognac, Dijon, Bordeaux, and Le Mans. On the other end of the spectrum, some regions have benefitted from milder conditions. This is the case for Montélimar, Bastia, Nîmes, and Perpignan. that display higher than normal sunshine rates.
«This can be explained by the general flow which has been very often oceanic with mild and humid air masses coming from the Atlantic. These have been accompanied by disturbances», decrypts Cyrille Duchesne, meteorologist at La Chaîne Météo.
