Starting in spring 2025, Bordeaux Métropole will launch a major project between Place Stalingrad and Porte de Bourgogne, aiming to renovate the Pont de Pierre and modernize the tram network. This work will have a significant impact on tram traffic from June to August, disrupting lines A, C, and D for three months.

A gigantic project begins in spring 2025

The project includes two parts: the renovation of the Pont de Pierre, which will be inaccessible for trams, buses, and taxis, and the modernization of the network at Porte de Bourgogne, featuring the installation of new switches. The goal is to strengthen the infrastructure and enhance the continuity of the public transport service, which is now 20 years old, while creating two new tram lines: E and F, which will connect the train station to the airport.

port and the Right Bank in Blanquefort.

No trams, buses, or taxis will be able to circulate

« This construction is one of the most significant in the last twenty years », highlights the Metropolis. While the goal is crucial for preserving the Stone Bridge, it will cause some inconveniences for users, particularly with the partial suspension of the tram during the summer. A comprehensive substitute plan will be implemented, including a increase in frequencies on line 16 and encouragement to use gentle transport modes, like walking or biking.

The work on the Stone Bridge, lasting 52 months with a budget of 50 million euros, aims to strengthen the aging structure of the bridge, which is considered close to its elastic limit. Among the interventions, the insertion of 160 micropiles into the bridge's foundations should enhance its stability.

For better mobility in the future

">At the same time, the tram network at the Porte de Bourgogne will be upgraded to enhance its reliability and capacity. These improvements should strengthen the service while creating new connections for users. This dual project, both ambitious and complex, will shape the future of transportation in Bordeaux, but for now, we’ll need to be patient and adaptable in the face of upcoming disruptions.
