After denial, it's time for security measures in Bordeaux
During a visit to the Municipal Police Station alongside his new deputy in charge of security, crime prevention, and mediation, Marc Etcheverry, Pierre Hurmic presented his new commitment to security for the people of Bordeaux. « Bordeaux has long suffered from a denial of reality regarding security. More budget and municipal police officers on the ground
This commitment begins with an increase in the budget allocated to security in Bordeaux. The budget has increased from 16.6 million in 2020 to 18.5 million in 2024. This represents a 2 million.We are talking about an increase of 11.5% in the municipal police budget. An increase in the number of municipal police officers can also be noted: 32 new municipal police officers have joined the team in 2024 (a 23% increase) and 200 municipal police agents will be official by 2026.
The municipal police has been completely restructured, with the creation of a mountain bike brigade in 2020 and the relocation of the equestrian brigade near the center of Bordeaux. Among the upcoming news? The arrival of the canine brigade in April, the launch of the anti-incivilities brigade in June, and the deployment of new proximity devices for the municipal police to intensify the fight against insecurity in the Bordeaux area (mobile municipal police station, neighborhood tranquility routes, meeting points between municipal police and residents).
New video surveillance cameras are also being introduced.
The video surveillance system continues to gain ground: 53 new video surveillance cameras have been installed between 2020 and 2023, bringing the total to 183 cameras in the city. By 2024, the city of Bordeaux will be equipped with 215 cameras, including 5 mobile cameras (a 58% increase since 2020).

Bordeaux's security plan also includes strengthening social mediation means (with 13 new mediators by the end of 2024), launching the national police and municipal police convention, and actively participating in operational partnership groups and local treatment groups.
