The Port of the Moon welcomes one of the most impressive offshore racing sailboats in the world. Since Monday, the Maxi Banque Populaire XI trimaran has dropped anchor at the Quai des Queyries after sailing up the Garonne and passing under the Chaban-Delmas bridge, all while curious onlookers watched.
A "Formula 1 of the seas" in the Garonne
Launched in 2021, the Maxi Banque Populaire XI impresses with its extraordinary dimensions: 32 meters long, 23 meters wide, and a mast towering at 38 meters high. Designed for athletic performance, this Ultim class trimaran can reach speeds of up to 50 knots, which is nearly 90 km/h. On board, there's a crew of 15, including the famous skipper Armel Le Cléac’h, winner of the Vendée Globe 2016-2017.
This is the first time this sea giant has docked in Bordeaux since its launch.

A free village dedicated to the ocean and sailing
Until May 28, a free village open to everyone is set up at Quai des Queyries, from 9 AM to 5:30 PM. Visitors can discover the importance of ocean conservation with Water Family, participate in a plastic recycling workshop with Save La Mermaid, try out a surf simulator on the Teahupoo wave, or even virtually hoist the mainsail of the trimaran using a winch just like professional skippers.
.
A photo and documentary exhibition showcasing the history of the boat and its construction is also set up along the docks.
Usually based in Lorient, the Maxi Banque Populaire XI is currently touring between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic in preparation for its upcoming major sporting events, including the Route du Rhum 2026.
