A First in France!

The town of Bordeaux Métropole with 42,000 inhabitants is taking a step towards the future. At a time when more than one in ten people own cryptocurrency (+25% in 2023), Talence makes history by becoming the first city to adopt cryptocurrency payments. This small revolution is carried out in partnership with the startup Lyzi - which has already collaborated with the shopping centers Apsy in Paris. Customers will now be able to pay for their transactions with their online wallets in bitcoin, ether, or other tether. In total, 70 cryptocurrencies are accepted by the French fintech.

A Testing Phase for this Alternative Payment Method

To pay, customers will need to scan a QR Code (automatically generated by the merchant, like an amount to pay on a traditional POS terminal). These special payment terminals are only found in local shops, thanks to a partnership with the 3 ...Merchants' associations in Talence. There are around 30 who are registered in the program and already 12 who are equipped with this new payment system. The initiative will first take place as a test phase before being implemented permanently if successful. For now, the date for the introduction of this new widespread payment method has not yet been announced. Everyone is hoping for it to be in place by this summer or at the latest by the back-to-school season.
