The Editor

It was in the 1930s that the first pool was born on this vast estate, acquired by the municipality of Caudérian in 1949. The site, once owned by the school for the deaf and mute, quickly became the sporting heart of the neighborhood: sports fields, a school, elegant housing… and of course, the Stéhélin pool, inaugurated at the end of the 1960s. Since then, it has welcomed families, athletes, and sunbathers every summer to its large solarium.

The retro charm… and the Nordic revolution

Open only from June to August, the Stéhélin pool features an outdoor basin measuring 25 x 12 meters with six swimming lanes, surrounded by a spacious terrace and a solarium where you can relax. The locals come for swimming lessons, activities, and the laid-back atmosphere.

But the story doesn't stop there: the city of Bordeaux has launched a major renovation project. By 2026, Stéhélin will become the Jean-Zay pool (named after the creator of the Cannes Festival and a politician dedicated to making culture accessible to everyone), featuring a 25-meter stainless steel Nordic pool, heated and open year-round, a first for Bordeaux. There will be two solariums, one of which will be planted with greenery, a water play area for kids, modernized changing rooms, and eco-friendly equipment (solar panels, heat pumps) to complete the picture. The water will be kept at a cozy 27°C, promising great swims even in the depths of winter.

Jean-Zay Pool: a vibrant place for all Bordeaux residents

The future Jean-Zay pool promises to become the new headquarters for urban swimmers, families, and slow sport enthusiasts. You'll find the essence of Stéhélin here: friendly and welcoming.

trivial, accessible, intergenerational, with special attention given to the environment and everyone's comfort. The project also plans to preserve the trees in the park and connect the pool to the nearby square for a total immersion in nature. Total cost of the project carried out by the Baudin Chateauneuf group: 9 million euros.
