With its busy roads and sometimes strained public transport, Bordeaux is thinking about a new solution: bringing the tramway over the Chaban-Delmas bridge. This project, which has been previously studied, is now back at the forefront of priorities, with a possible launch by 2032.

A New Tram to Cross the Garonne

The idea is clear: to create a direct link between the right bank and the left bank. The proposed route would connect Cenon Station to the Cité du Vin, and then on to the Stade Atlantique, while linking several lines of the existing network.

Two options are being studied, with a preference for an extension of line B. The Chaban-Delmas bridge, inaugurated in 2013, was originally designed to accommodate the tramway's passage.

Facilitating Access to the Right Bank and Reducing Congestion

Network Saturation

This project aims to address a well-known issue for users: the saturation of transport, especially on line A. By creating new connections and a cross-line, this future line would help smooth travel, reduce transfers, and enhance access to the increasingly attractive right bank.

It would also provide an alternative in case of disruptions on the other bridges, which are regularly affected by construction or incidents.

Expected to Launch in 2032

On the ground, the idea is already captivating. For many residents on the right bank, current trips are long and cumbersome. A direct tram connection could significantly reduce travel times and improve daily life.

The project could be approved by 2027, after studies and a public consultation. The estimated cost is between ....

50 to 60 million euros, well below that of a metro or a cable car, which are now set aside.
