Bordeaux is keeping up the pace with pedestrianization!

After Pey-Berland and Saint-Eloi, it’s now Saint-Mich'’s turn to become a pedestrian area! This exciting new expansion affects 16 streets, 4 squares, 2 dead ends, as well as the Salinieres quay from number 1 to number 11. Among the included areas? Rue Maubec, part of Rue des Faures, Place Meynard, Place Canteloup, Rue du Moulin, Rue Grand Rabbin Joseph Cohen, and the Bir Hakiem Square.

Access control will now be managed using a system of smart bollards: 7 entry bollards and 4 exit ones have been installed to regulate traffic.

The southern part of the city is turning into a pedestrian area!

This expansion reflects a desire to rethink public spaces and promote eco-friendly transportation. Since 2020, the city has been gradually working on this transformation. The goal is clear: to reach 259 hectares of pedestrian zones by...2026, compared to 172 hectares today, and maintaining its status as the "largest pedestrian zone in France."

This is another step towards a quieter, greener city, where pedestrians and cyclists are at the heart of priorities with better shared spaces. The benefits are numerous: fighting against pollution, securing public areas, and improving the quality of life for local residents.

Exemptions for Residents and Merchants

Only vehicles belonging to residents and delivery professionals can continue to access the affected areas, during specific hours. To obtain an access card, a simple online process or a visit to the municipal police station at Place Rohan is required.

And the story doesn't stop there! Soon, a new extension of 6 hectares will complement this ambitious project in the Amédée Saint-Germain neighborhood, near the Saint-Jean train station. Bordeaux continues its transformation, aiming to become a hub for sustainable mobility and a model of a city that is truly forward-thinking.
