Bordeaux Airport: A Transformation on the Horizon for 2028

A few weeks ago, it was announced that Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport was going to undertake major renovations to offer an optimized passenger experience. Petit Billi will grow big, bringing along all its friends (halls A and B) for extensive work starting in 2 years. A new space of 21,000 m² will be built between the two historic terminals (halls A and B), the pre-boarding area of 5000 m² will include the opening of a food market, and the unique baggage delivery room will expand to 4,200 m². And that's just to name a few!

Time for Change!

This new airport layout designed by the architecture firm ENIA and the engineering firm INGEROP offers a clear and efficient passenger boarding process, based on a continuous forward motion, ensuring a readable and simplified experience for the passenger.

What are the goals? To streamline and simplify the passenger flow, reduce waiting times at various stages of the journey, offer shopping and entertainment spaces inspired by passenger consumption trends, and meet the latest safety requirements while ensuring the adaptability of the facilities. Committed to the environment, the new building will be certified High Environmental Quality Sustainable Building with an excellent level and will be part of the carbon neutral approach by 2030.

At the beginning

The reception and check-in areas of halls A and B on level 1 are being kept. The spatial arrangement between these two areas will be completely redesigned to create a single entrance point to boarding.

The unique entry point to boarding welcomes passengers into a 3,000 m2 space equipped with 6 state-of-the-art security control lines. New equipment allows for avoiding emptying bags of their electronic or liquid/aerosol content and provides more efficiency in the control process. Big changes are also expected in the waiting area before boarding with a large 5,000 m2 chill and commercial space designed as a vibrant place honoring the South-West. It will feature, among other things, a food market inspired by market halls.
