This is an urban turning point for Bastide. Place Stalingrad, a strategic crossroads between the two banks and a major transportation hub, is undergoing a major redevelopment and greening project. At the same time, Allée Serr and Place Calixte Camelle are also being reimagined as part of a comprehensive neighborhood renewal program.

A greener, more pedestrian-friendly Stalingrad Square
Designed two centuries ago and renovated in the early 2000s, Stalingrad Square had become a vast mineral space dominated by road traffic, trams, and buses. To make it greener, calmer, and safer, the city has launched a project costing 5 million euros.
Bus services have been reorganized, sidewalks in front of shops have been widened, and pedestrian space has increased by 50%. In total, more than 50 trees, nearly 4,500 shrubs, and over 3,500 perennial plants will be planted. The project also includes the creation of 1.3 kilometers of cycling paths, the installation of benches and chairs, and the removal of impermeable surfaces from nearly 4,500 m² of area. The completion is expected soon!
and right at the beginning of spring 2026.
The Serr Alley Transformed into a Green Esplanade
Just a few steps away, the Serr Alley, developed on former railway tracks leading to the Orléans train station, is also undergoing a significant transformation. Long identified as a major heat island by the urban planning agency A-urba, this very mineral alley, marked by the gradual disappearance of its ash trees, will be converted into a one-hectare green esplanade.
The works, costing 1.3 million euros, will include the planting of over 100 trees (15 saved), more than 2,000 shrubs, and more than 7,000 perennial plants. About 3,500 m² will be depaved. The space will feature 5 pétanque courts, 2 chess tables, 3 drinking fountains, 7 picnic tables, 18 benches, 13 chairs, and nearly 50 bike racks. The m
The open-air arch on Friday will be maintained. Delivery is also expected in spring 2026.
Calixte Camelle, a collaborative project
The Calixte Camelle square completes this triad of renovations with a budget of nearly 2 million euros. Designed in collaboration with the associations Les Vendredis chez Calixte and Les Bastidais, the project plans for greening and de-paving of 1,300 m². Lounge chairs, benches, and new bike parking spots will be set up to encourage local use.
