The Misty City: A Local Response to the Heat
Under the blazing summer sun, certain spots in Bordeaux now offer an unexpected breeze. In every corner of the city, misters have been installed to refresh passersby: Place de la Victoire, Quai Deschamps, Parc Cérey, Jardin Public, the playgrounds at Bassins à flot, and even Place André Meunier. In total, about 15 misting points are spread across parks, playgrounds, and bustling locations.

These installations are freely accessible, providing immediate relief and helping to create cool zones in the city center. They complement the over 340 drinking water fountains already available in Bordeaux.
Heatwave plan: active vigilance from June 1 to September 15
In response to recurring heat waves, the heatwave plan is activated every year from June 1 to September 15, with the possibility of extension. It is based on four alert levels, triggered according to the intensity of temperatures: Level 1 (green): seasonal vigilance, Level 2 (yellow): heat warning, Level 3 (orange): heatwave alert (≥ 35°C during the day / ≥ 21°C at night for 3 days), and Level 4 (red): maximum mobilization in case of a heatwave.

In case of an alert, the City adapts its services and boosts its actions. The municipal pools and the Lake beach remain open until 8 PM, and some parks and gardens until 11 PM., and climate-controlled spaces (libraries, museums, cinemas) become refuges for everyone.
Supporting the most vulnerable
Special attention is given to vulnerable groups. Outreach activities are strengthened, the Jean Moulin center welcomes the homeless, and the citizen reserve gets involved. Isolated elderly individuals can register for the heatwave registry through the senior autonomy platform (0 800 625 885), which organizes regular calls and offers social support. In parallel, preventive actions are carried out in nurseries, schools, and senior residences.
