A new 8000 m2 garden with a dog park, playground, and fruit trees opens in Chartrons!

This Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 5:30 PM, Pierre Hurmic, the mayor of Bordeaux, will inaugurate the new version of the Jardin de ta sœur, located in the Chartrons neighborhood. Born from a citizen mobilization, this vibrant 8,000 m² space is now getting a fresh new life, designed with and for the residents.

A rebirth born from civic engagement

In the early 2000s, on a piece of land at risk of being developed, locals, associations, and collectives – including Bruit du frigo and the Bordeaux Nord social center – came together to create a shared green space. Its unique name, « Garden of Your Sister », chosen by the residents, has stood the test of time and has become a landmark in the neighborhood.

A Green Gem Designed for Everyone

Completely reimagined, the garden now spans an impressive 8,000 m², including 6,000 m² of lush greenery. Here's what's in store: 75 additional trees, including 22 fruit trees forming an orchard, a new playground, a green pergola, a dog park for our furry friends, and pathways accessible for people with reduced mobility.

The facilities also focus on creating a friendly atmosphere: 14 benches, 4 picnic tables, and 3 water fountains (including one for dogs) invite you to relax and meet new people. A hub for activities, community gardening, games, or just taking a breath in the city, the "Jardin de ta soeur" stays true to its original spirit: a green oasis created collectively, where biodiversity and community living flourish every day.
