A House Underwater to Raise Awareness
No, it’s not a contemporary artwork or a conceptual performance. On June 27th and 28th, 2025, Macif will submerge a life-sized house (5 x 3 m) in the Garonne, right in front of the Eco-Citizen House on Quai Richelieu in Bordeaux. Named The House of Aleas, this symbolic structure showcases the real effects of flooding. The goal is to raise public awareness about rising waters and the right reactions to adopt.

An original, visual, and engaging initiative
Did you know that 64% of French territory is at risk of flooding? Yet, most of the people affected are not even aware of it. With this free event open to everyone, Macif aims to raise awareness about climate risks. And Bordeaux, regularly threatened by the Garonne's floods, is the perfect place for this important reminder.
Two days of activities to raise public awareness
Around the submerged house, a prevention village will set up on the Richelieu quay with immersive, fun, and participatory activities. Here's what's on the agenda:
-
Educational workshops with Les Petits Débrouillards to understand the origin of floods
-
Quizzes, activity booklets, and interactive clips offered by AFPCNT
-
“The Flood Risk Box”: an immersive 30-minute game to test your reflexes in the face of a flood
-
Board games, escape rooms, giant quizzes around climate prevention with Macif
-
Exchanges with firefighters, on Fridays, to gather testimonies and on-the-ground advice
