While 23 departments in the country are under an orange snow and ice alert, Nouvelle-Aquitaine is bracing for a winter blitz that is expected to hit Gironde between Monday evening and Wednesday morning. It’s a perfect weather mix to remind us that winter… has only just begun!

Biting Cold Until Wednesday

Since Monday, the people of Bordeaux have been waking up to particularly low temperatures: –5 °C in the morning, with possible frost fog, and no more than 4 °C during the day. This striking atmosphere is expected to last until Wednesday, according to Météo-France and several forecasting services.

In the region, the minimum temperatures range from –1 to –5 °C along the coast, and can drop to –10 °C further inland. A dry, intense cold has settled in over the past few days, making roads sometimes slippery in the early morning.

Possible snow in Bordeaux… but especially in the Médoc and on the Bassin

A disturbance coming from the British Isles is set to reach the region this Monday evening. According to the current forecasts: Bordeaux could see a few snowflakes from Monday night to Tuesday, or even from Tuesday to Wednesday. The chance is higher in the Médoc, the Bassin d’Arcachon, the Libournais, and the area of Lège-Cap-Ferret, where several centimeters could cover the ground in white. The southern part of Gironde should be spared. Travel may be tricky on Tuesday morning, even with small amounts. On Wednesday, another snowy episode is possible inside the Médoc, while the Bordeaux metropolis will likely experience a chilly mix of rain and ice at dawn.

Starting Thursday: warming up… and plu

Rain non-stop

After three icy days, the Gironde will suddenly switch to a much milder oceanic vibe. Starting Thursday, temperatures will rise to an average of 12 °C. But this warm-up comes at a cost: a lasting rainy episode is expected for the end of the week and potentially for several consecutive days.
