Here we go again for the people of Bordeaux, it's time to plan for getting around from the city center to the right bank ! From June 23 to August 30, 2026, tram services will be partially interrupted on the Pont de Pierre in Bordeaux. This new phase is part of a major renovation project launched in the summer of 2025 and expected to last 52 months.

A 200-Year-Old Bridge in Need of Care

Built in the early 19th century, the Pont de Pierre is now in a fragile state. Supported by wooden piles, the structure is sinking into the Garonne by about 5 millimeters per year.

An. The work aims to reinforce the bridge's piers through the installation of micropiles, but it will also review the waterproofing and the drainage system of the deck. This summer, 4 new piers will be strengthened, with 16 micropiles drilled per pier.

Trams suspended from June 23 to August 30

During the work, several lines will be affected:

  • Line A: suspended between Stalingrad and Sainte-Catherine
  • Line E: suspended between Stalingrad and Quinconces

Good news though : the C, D, and F lines will be maintained, thanks to the switch works completed last summer. The bridge will remain accessible to pedestrians and cyclists, but traffic will be limited to one lane. Buses, taxis, and emergency vehicles will need to take detours for the entire duration of the construction.

Alternatives for crossing the Garonne

To minimize the impact of the works, several solutions will be implemented: substitute buses, bicycle-taxis called “Mobivelo” for people in need, an increase in the availability of self-service bikes, and a water connection with the Bato between Stalingrad and the Quinconces.
