Bordeaux Métropole has won an excellence award for the quality of its transportation network and its various actions in multimodality. Made up of industry experts, user representatives, environmental associations, and specialized journalists, the jury chose Bordeaux for its ability to modernize its offerings and encourage sustainable mobility.

A comprehensive and coherent strategy that pays off

This award crowns the extensive mobility scheme approved in 2021. For the past four years, Bordeaux has been working to weave a seamless network where trams, express buses, bicycles, river connections, and metropolitan RER complement and support each other.

The new tram lines E and F, which started service on December 6 after the switch work carried out this summer at Porte de Bourgogne, enable new strategic connections, including a direct link between the train station and the airport.

t, while increasing the frequency during peak hours, dropped from three minutes twenty to two minutes thirty on the busiest section.

More and more travelers!

The results speak for themselves. After a 9% increase in ridership in 2024, a direct result of the network redesign, the positive trend continues into 2025 with a remarkable rise in bus usage, showing a 14% increase this year!

In the third quarter, the metropolis is also seeing a fantastic boom in cycling! Areas like the Chaban-Delmas Bridge, the Cours de la Somme, and the Quai de Queyries now welcome between 2,000 and 4,000 cyclists each day, a figure that showcases a growing enthusiasm for active mobility.

At the same time, Line H, the second express bus line rolled out after Line G, now provides a complete circular service along the boulevards. By connecting the Chaban-Delmas and Simone Veil bridges without having to go through the city center, it smooths out daily commutes and offers a quick alternative for drivers.

A metropolis in motion, looking towards the future

This flurry of initiatives creates an innovative, clear, and future-oriented mobility landscape. It’s this holistic vision, designed to support a rapidly growing metropolis while addressing environmental challenges, that the jury wanted to commend.
