Based on 2,137 relocations carried out in 2025, this study shows that Bordeaux remains a charming destination. However, the profile of new arrivals is changing: they are now more likely to settle here permanently rather than just seeking a new experience.

Bordeaux Confirms Its Appeal

The latest barometer from Des Bras en Plus once again places Bordeaux on the podium of the most attractive cities in France, outside of the Île-de-France region.

The Gironde metropolis ranks as the 2nd national destination, behind Biarritz and ahead of Toulouse, Rennes, or Montpellier. More broadly, relocations to the Atlantic coast and the Grand Ouest have increased by 10% compared to 2024.

According to Massoud Ayati, CEO of Des Bras en Plus, « Bordeaux still attracts many, but the profile...

of those who manage to change. We see fewer young people "testing" Bordeaux and more people making a definitive choice, putting down roots. It’s a sign of a city that has moved from being a trend to a reference.

More diverse profiles and sustainable life projects

New residents come with diverse profiles:

  • 35% are young professionals or students (ages 22 to 34), drawn by jobs or studies;
  • 28% are professionals on the move (ages 30 to 45);
  • 22% are families looking for more space and a better quality of life;
  • 15% are retirees attracted by the climate and quality of life.

The majority of newcomers still come from Paris and Île-de-France, representing 47% of recorded moves. Gironde follows with 28% of internal relocations, ahead of Toulouse (6%) and Lyon (5%).

Climate is becoming a new reason for moving

The study also highlights a shift in motivations. Beyond job opportunities, housing prices, or family proximity, the “climatic comfort” is now a decisive factor. According to the survey, 13% of moves today are motivated, at least in part, by what the company calls a “climatic reflex.”

With its economic dynamism, cultural life, proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, and a TGV connection to Paris in about 2 hours, Bordeaux continues to be one of the most sought-after destinations for the French looking for a fresh start.
