Bordeaux, the 4th most dangerous city in France outside of the Paris region
In 2020, 1780 people (known) were victims of violence or theft on the TBM network in Bordeaux, which corresponds to nearly 7 victims per 1,000 inhabitants.
A figure to consider, of course. But also to be put into perspective. The top spot goes to the capital. The Parisian network is the most anxiety-inducing in France. In 2020, no less than 54,856 people were victims of violence or theft in public transportation, which corresponds to 25 victims per 1,000 inhabitants. An astounding figure. Seine-Saint-Denis comes in at second place in the ranBeing followed by Lyon and Montpellier.
Decreasing numbers in line with attendance
In reality, these numbers show a decrease in all cities compared to 2019 with -26% for Bordeaux, -29% for Paris and -18% in Seine-Saint-Denis. The reason? The decrease in attendance due to various lockdowns and remote work.
The Ministry's study also reveals that 74% of the assailants were aged between 13 and 29. It is worth mentioning that in Bordeaux, there are several measures in place to combat unruly behavior: TBM security teams on the ground, emergency call points in stations (at the ticket vending machine level), and an online reporting system.
