Bordeaux bike lovers are going to be thrilled! A new two-way bike lane is set to be built along the quays of Bordeaux, specifically between the Jacques Chaban-Delmas bridge and the Cours du Médoc. This ambitious project, costing a total of two million euros, will kick off in mid-January 2024 and last for eleven months.
A new setup separated from cars
Separated from car traffic, the bike lane will be constructed between the sidewalk and the road to provide more safety for cyclists. The project will be carried out in successive sections to minimize disruptions. The first works will take place on the Quai des Chartrons.
While detours for cyclists are planned, vehicle traffic will remain open, with recommended alternate routes provided by Bordeaux Métropole, particularly via cours Balguerie Stuttenberg or cours Saint-Louis. The completion of the works is expected by November 2025, with a gradual reopening of sections.
