The Editor

The judgment has been made. For this 5th edition, the association Villes & Villages has established its list of the best places to live in France. With its constant traffic jams, saturated public transport, and exorbitant rents, it's no surprise that Bordeaux is not in the top 10. However, it is still surprising to see the gem of Aquitaine so low in the ranking, as it is only at the 29th place out of 34,808. It has dropped 2 places compared to the 2023 ranking where it was in 27th place.

The West of France dominates the podium

Only a small nuance that warms the heart: the west of France is almost faultless. On the podium, Angers, Bayonne, and Biarritz have stood out from the 34,808 French communes. Alongside them, Ang...Let, Annecy and Lorient also dominate the top 10.

Particularly strict judging criteria

In total, 187 criteria divided into 11 categories are used to establish the final ranking. This includes factors like quality of life, safety, environmental protection, health, businesses and services, transportation, education, sports and leisure, finances and local taxes, solidarity, and real estate attractiveness.
