Does La Belle-Endormie really live up to its name?

If you ask someone from Bordeaux, they'll probably tell you with confidence that Bordeaux is the paradise for fun-loving folks! But wait a minute. A recent study by Top10DesCasinos.com suggests otherwise. According to the results, Bordeaux only ranks 9th in the top 10 French cities for having a good time… Despite its 337 bars and 26 nightclubs, it scored a final rating of 75.77/100. What’s the issue? The high prices, noise restrictions, and overwhelming crowds that cause long waits!

Higher Prices than Average

According to the ranking revealed by the site,  Burdigala comes in just before last place behind Montpellier, Lille, and Villeurbanne, which are at the top of the list. Close behind are Toulouse, Lyon, Paris, Strasbourg, and Clermont-Ferrand, which we didn't expect to see in such a position. To conduct this study, Top10DesCasinos.com decided to consider the number of bars, casinos, and nightclubs per km² in each city, as well as the prices of drinks, taxis, and public transport tickets.

Described by some as the wine capital of the world, Bordeaux ranks ninth with a score of 75.77. Its reputation as a wine city is well-deserved considering its large number of wine bars. Whether you enjoy a Cabernet Sauvignon or prefer the freshness of a Sémillon, Bordeaux has refined establishments that will satisfy your thirst.

However, the main drawback of Bordeaux is its high cost, which exceeds that of most other French cities in our study. The influx of tourists also affects the atmosphere of the city, sometimes altering the authenticity of the Belle Endormie and leading to long waits in pubs and bars. Additionally, the options for extending the evening are limited due to strict noise restrictions, making Bordeaux less ideal for partying until dawn.

Marseille, at the very bottom of the rankings

For reassurance... Aand a big city is sorely missing from the top 10, and it is  Marseille. While in recent years, people from the provinces have tended to  praise the merits of the Phocaean city even moving there, the capital of the South still finds itself quite low in the ranking. With a score of 53.58/100, the lowest in the ranking, the city seems far from making night owls happy, despite an impressive density of bars, 240.6 bars per km² which is more than 2 times higher than Paris. What’s to blame, is its relatively low density of nightclubs (0.083 per km²), limiting options for those looking to dance all night and some of the highest prices in France : an average of 5.84€ for a beer and  8.01€ on average for a glass of wine.
