The Latest Alarming Figures Hitting Bordeaux 

The Ville Data site has analyzed the figures concerning insecurity and crime in Bordeaux. The study, based on 14 key indicators at the municipal level, ranks Bordeaux in 2nd place among cities with the highest crime rates per capita, making it the 367th safest city in France out of 368.

The ranking lists 368 cities in metropolitan France with more than 22,500 inhabitants and shows that crime in Bordeaux experienced a notable increase of 7.3% in 2023, with a total of 27,424 crimes and offenses, up from 25,564 the previous year. In the Gironde region, Bordeaux is the most affected city by insecurity, followed by Bègles, Lormont, Libourne, and Talence which complete the top 5. 

Areas of Concern

Among the notable facts, several types of crime have seen worrying increases. Vehicle thefts skyrocketed by 45.81%, while drug-related offenses rose by 11.5%. Vehicle thefts increased by 9.7%, and armed robberies climbed by 7.95%. These figures reflect a growing insecurity in certain sectors of the city, such as Elie Gintrac Street in the Capucins district.

Sexual assaults have increased by 5.5%, with 651 recorded complaints in 2023, marking a significant rise compared to previous years. It is estimated that the actual number of victims could be as high as 5,425, highlighting the extent of this phenomenon in the city. Drug-related cases, both for trafficking and consumption, have also risen by 8.2% in 2023. Authorities registered 1,867 individuals involved in drug-related cases, a concerning number despite a slight decrease in trafficking itself.

On the flip side, some offenses have seen a significant decrease. Violent thefts without weapons have dropped by 10.19%, as have accessory thefts from vehicles (-6.92%), and drug trafficking has decreased by 6.84%. Break-ins have also decreased.5.38%.
