It's confirmed! The race is on for the Marathon de Bordeaux making its grand return in 2026. This news brings joy to running enthusiasts: Bordeaux will finally reconnect with its flagship event of 42.195 km, which has been absent from the calendar since October 2019. The last edition, organized by the private provider Ironman France, took place at night and gathered nearly 18,000 participants before the city hall ended the partnership, deemed too expensive.
This time, it's the Bordeaux Athlétic club, already the organizer of the 10 km and the half-marathon, that takes the reins of the event. With its experience and the popular success achieved in recent years, the club aims to make this day a true celebration of running.
Marathon de Bordeaux 2026: A Redesigned Course
The 2026 marathon promises to be...being completely daytime, with a route that will cross the heart of the metropolis. Three distances will be offered: 10 km, half-marathon, and marathon, so everyone can find their own pace and share the same energy.
More than 700 volunteers will be mobilized to orchestrate this exciting new edition, symbolizing the return of a major sports event in Bordeaux. “The day we arrived at the town hall with our project for the half marathon, everyone was waiting for the marathon,” confides the president. “We first wanted to be sure of our expertise before relaunching the legendary distance.
