The latest ranking from Figaro on the cities most affected by burglaries places several towns in the Bordeaux metropolitan area at the top. Out of the 440 medium-sized cities in France analyzed by the Ministry of the Interior: Bègles, Eysines, Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, and Pessac stand out for their high number of burglaries. Unfortunately, the towns in Gironde are officially among the hardest hit in the country.
Bègles, leading the Gironde ranking
With 227 burglaries recorded in 2024, Bègles holds the fifth position nationally, with a rate of 14.18 incidents per 1,000 homes. Although this figure represents a slight decrease of 0.38% compared to the previous year, the city remains among the most affected, just behind the towns of Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni and Kourou in Guyana, and then the outskirts of Nantes and Lyon.
Eysines, in ninth place, records 161 burglaries, while Saint-Médard-en-Jalles follows closely behind with a rate of 13%. Both cities, although in the top 20 most burglarized cities, have seen their numbers decrease compared to 2023.Pessac on red alert and Villenave-d'Ornon on the decline
Pessac, in 16th place, shows a notable increase of 1.37% compared to the previous year, with 445 recorded burglaries. The rate of 13.07 per 1,000 homes reflects a concerning situation for this suburb of Bordeaux.
Once a leader in this sad ranking, Villenave-d'Ornon has seen a significant decline, landing in 51st place after previously being spotted on the podium for several consecutive years.With a rate of 10.28 burglaries per 1,000 homes, the city has seen a decrease of 3.41% compared to the previous year. The mayor of the city, Michel Poignonec, highlights local efforts, such as strengthening the police force and deploying video surveillance, to explain this downward trend.
