Formerly a landfill, the Eco-site of Bourgailh has become one of the largest natural spaces in the Bordeaux metropolitan area. Open year-round, it combines forest walks, botanical discovery, and environmental awareness in a setting accessible to everyone.

A 110-hectare forest at the gates of Bordeaux

Located in Pessac, the Bourgailh forest serves as a true green lung for the metropolitan area. This vast natural space of 110 hectares is crisscrossed by paths, walkways, bridges, and viewpoints rising up to 18 meters high, offering stunning views of the canopy.

As visitors stroll along, they traverse oak groves, pine forests, heather moors, and landscaped gardens, following a main path of 2.6 kilometers, complemented by...

a 1.3-kilometer interpretive trail.

A tropical greenhouse that takes you across continents

The true tr&The director of Bourgailh hides behind the doors of his tropical greenhouse.

On 1,300 m², it brings together more than 3,500 plants from all corners of the world. Orchids, cacti, begonias, carnivorous plants, agaves, baobabs, frangipanis, and succulents create an impressive collection that immerses visitors in various climates, from lush forests to desert landscapes.

Guided tours allow for a better understanding of the amazing adaptation strategies of these species and the challenges related to biodiversity.

An old site transformed into a natural space

The story of Bourgailh is also one of a successful redevelopment. Once home to an old community dump, the site has become a space dedicated to nature, walking, and environmental education.

Since its establishment in 2002, the Écosite du Bourgailh association has been carrying out numerous awareness-raising activities around wildlife, plant life, gardening, water, and responsible consumption.

Activities all year round for young and old

Beyond the greenhouse, Bourgailh offers an exceptionally rich program. Nature walks, workshops, birdwatching outings, discoveries of dragonflies, bats, or salamanders, educational gardens, vegetable patches, beehives, and events like the Spring of Bourgailh or the Night of Stars highlight the seasons.

The themed gardens and the greenhouse are open during the activity season, from April to September, while the forest is freely accessible all year round.
