The Vélodyssée: A Bicycle Adventure from Bordeaux

From Bordeaux, you can zip off to Lacanau, the Arcachon Bay, or head the other way up the coast toward Brittany. The Gironde stage offers 170 km of pure joy on dedicated paths, 90% away from cars, surrounded by the scent of pine trees, the song of cicadas, and the shimmering light of the coast. Whether you're a casual cyclist or a seasoned adventurer, the Vélodyssée is perfect for all fitness levels.

Travel Time, Cities Crossed, Routes, and Sceneries

The travel time on La Vélodyssée depends on your pace and the number of stops you choose. To cover the full 1,300 km from Roscoff (Brittany) to Hendaye (Spanish border), experienced cyclists can expect it to take between 2 and 3 weeks, with average daily stages of 60 to 80 km. For a more relaxed or family-friendly journey, plan for 3 to 4 weeks, taking the time to enjoy each beautiful view.

The route alternates between greenways, dedicated bike paths, and small shared roads. It runs along the Atlantic coast, wanders through pine forests, Poitevin marshes, the Nantes to Brest canal, the Breton Vendée marshes, the Landes forest, and coastal dunes, offering stunning views of the ocean, the Dune du Pilat, wild beaches, oyster farming ports, and all the way to the cliffs of the Basque coast. Each stage is filled with diverse landscapes, including charming villages, natural sites, and delicious stops.

Slow life, disconnection, and tasty stops

Every step is designed for relaxation: certified accommodations, bike-friendly welcome, vitamin-packed breakfasts, secure garages, and local tips. We stop for a picnic on the beach, an oyster tasting, or a photo op in front of the Dune of Pilat. The route, marked and 100% secure, ensures peace of mind, even for families.
