The first leather workshop to create your own leather bag has opened in Bordeaux

Want to create a unique piece with your own hands? The Atelier La Patine, located across from the CAPC contemporary art museum, invites Bordeaux locals to make their own leather bag or accessory, guided by a former Hermès artisan. Behind Atelier La Patine is Diane, a leathercraft enthusiast who aims to make this art accessible to everyone.

La Patine: a DIY leather workshop in Bordeaux

Building on the success of its first DIY workshop launched in Paris in 2017, it finally opened the same one in Bordeaux in 2021. The concept? 2-hour or 4-hour sessions where creative souls make their own leather piece. What can you choose? A handbag (4 hours), a clutch (2h30), or a wallet (2h).

All items are crafted from leftover stocks from renowned leather houses, like leather scraps or stagnant production stocks. The idea? To transform them into unique creations, embracing the spirit of upcycling. Prices range from 80€.

Simplified techniques delivered on a silver platter

« Everything has been designed so that even a novice in sewing can come and leave with their creation » shares the founder with us. Thanks to pre-cut materials, predefined leathers, and step-by-step guidance, beginners can try their hand at the craft and proudly display their œuvre.

« People arrive after making a reservation and are guided through the process. They choose their models, leathers, materials, and colors, and make the pattern their own » explains Diane. To make things easier for her clients, the leatherworker takes care of the more intricate details. However, participants have the freedom to personalize their piece : they can add a chain for a rockier look, choose a leather strap, pick their clasp from a selection, or decorate it with gold/silver/black eyelets... Each person allows their imagination to flow freely.

100% homemade, in the workshop or at home 

Everything is handmade, using a manual sewing technique, ensuring better strength and durability over time. Atelier La Patine stands out for its friendly atmosphere and ethical approach. In response to popular demand, Atelier La Patine has launched its takeaway kits (which include leathers, instructions, and tools), allowing you to create a belt, a tote bag, or a little children's bag!
