The verdict is in! According to the Central Canine Society, the Australian Shepherd has become the favorite dog of the residents of Nouvelle-Aquitaine in 2024. With 1,714 registered births, it takes the lead over the golden retriever (1,694 entries in the LOF), followed by the English setter (1,568 entries in the LOF).

And the stars of Bordeaux doggies are...

The new ranking of the favorite dogs of the French, published by the Canine Central, reveals the most popular breeds in 2024. In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, just like nationally, the Australian Shepherd reigns supreme, with 1,714 registrations in the French Origins Book (LOF), closely followed by the Golden Retriever (1,694 registrations) and the English Setter (1,568 registrations). Nationally, these breeds hold the 1st, 2nd, and 11th places respectively.

The region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, a true champion in canine births, recorded a record 26,284 pedigree puppies born in 2024, with 192 different breeds registered and 2,014 breeders.

The Australian Shepherd, a loving and sturdy companion

The Australian Shepherd is a loving, intelligent, and very active dog. Although it’s relatively young in terms of official recognition, its popularity has been on the rise since its arrival in France in the 1980s, now boasting over 150,000 registrations in the LOF. Medium-sized, with striking heterochromatic eyes and a beautiful coat, this loyal and playful companion perfectly fits into family life but requires a lot of exercise and stimulation to thrive.

The year 2024 brought us two big classics in naming trends: "Venus" for females and "Volt" for males. For 2025, future owners will choose a name starting with the letter "A". We can already imagine waves of Athos, Alaska, and Astro taking over the parks in Bordeaux!
