An Arrival on the Quays

On Friday, July 10, 2026, the Tour de France peloton will once again cross the Port de la Lune. According to exclusive information gathered by Sud Ouest Bordeaux, the finish will likely take place on the quays, just like in 2023. That year, Belgian Jasper Philipsen clinched victory ahead of Mark Cavendish in a massive sprint in front of the Quinconces square.

While the stage hasn’t revealed its starting point yet, it seems that the riders will be coming up from the south, after a sneak preview through the Pyrénées and a grand departure planned for Barcelona on July 4.

A sprint is almost guaranteed

With no significant hills close to Bordeaux, it’s hard to imagine anything other than a sprint finish. “The hills of Entre-deux-Mers are too far from the finish, and those of Bouliac, Floirac, or Cenon don’t offer the ideal safety conditions,” shares Thierry Gouvenou, the course director, with the daily newspaper.

One possibility remains: the potential use of the Simone-Veil bridge, which...te;sormais en service. Its crossing would offer a spectacular backdrop for the images of the Great Loop.

A Long History with Bordeaux

The 2026 stage will mark the 83rd passage of the Tour de France in Bordeaux, a city historically associated with sprint finishes. The last one in 2023 gathered thousands of spectators packed along the quays to cheer on the peloton.
