The 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Bordeaux

On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Bordeaux will celebrate the 80th anniversary of its liberation. On the same date in 1944, at exactly 6:30 AM, the Free French Forces (FFL), accompanied by resistance fighters, entered Bordeaux, which had been abandoned by the Germans during the night. It marks the end of 4 years of occupation. A vibrant crowd joyfully celebrated the Liberation throughout the city.

A 50s style dance open to everyone

To commemorate this memory, the city has organized various events: ceremonies, laying of memory stones, exhibitions (photos or vintage vehicles), meet-ups, walks, and off-site visits. To wrap up beautifully, a popular 40s-50s dance will take place in Pey-Berland Square.

Theevent is festive and open to everyone, inviting all to celebrate this significant date in our history with music. Tables and benches will be set up in Bordeaux's iconic square for picnicking, and food trucks will join the fun. After a friendly drink offered at 7 PM, dance lessons will be provided by Swingtime Bordeaux until 9 PM, before the popular dance kicks off and goes strong until midnight. We'll be enjoying the presence of the Hot Swing Sextet and DJ sets courtesy of D.J Phil Miller, M et Van'ss  to get the troops dancing.

Don’t hesitate to come in costume! The theme? The '40s and '50s. Get ready to show off your best swing!
