Mental Floss: Mathematical perfection to study beauty

Every year, the news webzine Mental Floss takes interest in the most beautiful cities in the world. To do so, the tabloid turns to science and consults the  analysts at Online Mortgage Advisor who focus their study on architecture. 

They first extracted images from Google Street View in cities around the world to obtain pictures of residential streets and about 2,400 iconic buildings. Then, they calculated the proportions of all these buildings to determine how much each adhered to the golden ratio. "The higher the scorThe higher a city's average buildings are elevated, closer to the golden ratio," wrote the researchers.

Bordeaux in the top 10 most beautiful cities in the world

Verdict? Venice took the first place, with a score of 83.3%, Rome finished second with a lovely score of 82% and Barcelona completes the podium with a score of 81.9%. Our dear and tender city of Bordeaux reaches the 9th place in the most beautiful cities in the world with 71.9%. France also has two other cities in the top 25: Paris at 12th place and Strasbourg at 20th.
