Every year, the "Politics and Animals" Observatory evaluates the efforts of major French cities to improve animal welfare. The goal? Encourage municipalities to adopt concrete measures such as plant-based diets, the well-being of stray animals, and transparency in shelters.

Bordeaux and Pessac, 2 pet-friendly cities
And our metropolis doesn't do things by halves! Here's a totally unique fun fact: 2 of the municipalities in the metropolis are in the top 10. It’s Pessac, which ranks ahead of Bordeaux in 6th place, achieving 68% of the objectives set by the charter. Bordeaux follows closely behind with 66%. Among the measures promoting animal welfare? Both cities have included goals for reducing the consumption of animal products in their strategic documents (action plans, SPASER, PAT, etc.) and encouraged restaurateurs to offer more plant-based alternatives.

The ranking « A City for Animals » (UVPA) published on February 26 by the L214 association confirms that simple and effective measures can be implemented by municipalities to improve animal welfare. In short, out of the 132 cities studied, 13 of them meet at least 50% of the goals set by L214's charter aimed at enhancing animal conditions in cities. Unfortunately, the majority still isn't fully embracing these essential measures, which are crucial to addressing ethical, climate, health, and food sovereignty challenges.
