Starting from Thursday, May 7th, the people of Bordeaux will be able to discover a new spot just a stone's throw away from the Flèche Saint-Michel. This will be the 8th Oxfam store in France, offering clothing, accessories, and cultural items at accessible prices, all sourced from donations.

A new solidarity store in Saint-Michel

Located in a historic neighborhood undergoing revitalization, this new store aims to develop a local, supportive, and sustainable economy. The project has been carried out with the support of the City of Bordeaux and the mixed economy company InCité. Designed as a vibrant community space, Oxfam's store goes beyond just selling items. It encourages a new way of consuming, focusing on second-hand goods and reusing products.

Affordable prices for a different way of shopping

The principle is simple: all items come from public donations, re-circulated at fair prices ranging from 50 cents to €30. Clothing, shoes, books, CDs, and even vinyl records make up the regularly updated selection. The proceeds help fund Oxfam's actions worldwide, particularly in the fight against inequality and poverty.

With our shops, we promote sustainable and responsible fashion,” emphasizes Cécile Duflot, General Director of Oxfam France.

A model based on commitment and sharing

Beyond shopping, everyone can also contribute by donating clothes or items in good condition directly at the store. The operation largely relies on the commitment of volunteers who keep the place lively and assist visitors.

Present in several cities like Paris, Lille, and Strasbourg, Oxfam shops are part of an international network of over 1,200 solidarity shops.

A Responsible Alternative to Fast Fashion

In the face of a textile industry responsible for 2 to 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, Oxfam offers a concrete response: extending the life of items and encouraging more responsible consumption.

With this new opening in Bordeaux, the organization continues its development and strengthens its presence in France, aiming to open new shops by 2028.
