For a few years now, Bordeaux Métropole has been offering the chance to spend a night for free in one of its 11 architectural gems: the suburban refuges. But watch out, to snag your ticket for the "Cloud" or "The Beautiful Star," you need to be quicker than lightning. We'll explain everything to you.

Forget about hotel check-ins and room service. Here, luxury means tranquility, a view of the Garonne or treetops, and most importantly, the experience of sleeping in a true work of art. The suburban retreats, born from the imagination of the collective Bruit du Frigo, are redefining urban camping.

11 stops, 11 worlds with the Bordeaux Metropolis refuges

Scattered all around the metropolis, these 11 architectural wonders are all unique. In Lormont, there's a pristine Cloud that seems to float above the waters of the Ermitage park. In Bègles, you’ll find The Watchers, three giant owls keeping an eye on the banks. In Pessac, you can sleep in a lifelike Hollow Log. Each structure is a "habitable sculpture" designed to welcome between 2 to 9 people (depending on the refuge) for a truly unique night experience.

The Real Adventure (Without Electricity)!

Don’t look for the outlet to charge your smartphone or the hot water tap. The concept is all about total disconnection.

  • Comfort: Beds (frames and mattresses), a table, and seats.

  • The Rest: It’s up to you! Bring your sleeping bags, headlamps, and water bottles.

  • Hygiene: Dry toilets are nearby, but for showers, you’ll have to wait until you get back home.

The Hunger Games Calendar

Since it's completely free, the demand is massive. Reservations open each month for the following month, following a strict rule: the first business day of the month at exactly 2:00 PM.

The editorial team's advice: This March, eyes are already turning towards the nights of May. Get your paperwork ready (mandatory liability insurance) and log in by 1:55 PM. By 2:05 PM, everything is usually booked!
